He has been painting for over 30 years and finally achieved a long held ambition to paint full-time, in 1996. Since then he has held solo exhibitions at The Maclaurin Art Gallery, Ayr (1996), The Dick Institute, Kilmarnock (1998) and The Untitled Gallery, London (2003). He also regularly exhibits in many joint exhibitions including the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and the Paisley Art Institute.
William is greatly inspired by the magnificent Scottish coastline and he enjoys capturing the contrast between bright evening skies and the strong, dark shadows and silhouettes the light creates. Recently, he has developed the theme of strong light and shadows and applied this to still life work, using the warm, glowing colours often found when the sun is setting. His original paintings and prints can be found in numerous private and corporate collections as far afield as America and Australia and in galleries throughout Scotland and the North of England. |
