Whilst teaching English in Hiroshima she studied the exacting art of Japanese brush drawings which combines the fluidity of brushstroke with control and precision, bringing life to abstracts.
Always seeking new experiences, Kirsten worked at he Imire Rhino Reserve in Zimbabwe and this really influenced her style and subject. "I was just a general dogsbody but I had daily contact with the animals. Animals are full of humour and life, with extraordinary shapes, strange forms and wonderful colours and textures. It was a fantastic opportunity to sketch and draw animals at close quarters and in their natural environment. |
